Rocket Rush

One button, one job: every press fires the thrusters and gives you a single upward kick. Everything difficult about Rocket Rush lives in the spacing of those kicks.

What Rocket Rush is

Rocket Rush is a one-tap flyer. Your rocket falls constantly under gravity and each press of the thrusters gives it one discrete upward impulse. Holding the button down adds nothing, so altitude is assembled from a series of separate kicks rather than from a sustained climb. Gates scroll towards you with a gap in each, stars sit along the route for extra points, and touching any part of a gate ends the run.

There is nothing else to learn. That is the design: a game with one input has nowhere to hide, so all of its difficulty has to live in timing and nerve rather than in complexity.

How it plays

Tap anywhere to fire the thrusters. On a keyboard Space, ↑ or a click all do the same, and P pauses. Each input is one impulse, so flying level means tapping at a steady rhythm rather than holding anything down. Fly through the gap in each gate, take stars where they are convenient, and avoid touching anything solid.

Getting better at it

Impulses stack. Several taps in quick succession add far more lift than one tap suggests, which is what turns an early correction into an overshoot and then into a drop. An even, unhurried cadence holds a near-level line, and height is changed by the spacing between taps rather than by pressing harder — the button has only one strength.

A star is worth points; the run holds every point already banked. Aiming for the centre of a gap rather than the edge nearest a star trades one against the other, and which trade suits you is worth deciding deliberately rather than in the moment.

It also helps to read one gate further ahead than feels natural. Each impulse takes effect over the following moments rather than instantly, so an input made when the gap is already in front of you lands late by the time it matters.

Who it suits

There is one control and no setup, so there is nothing between opening the page and flying. A run ends the moment you touch a gate and the next one starts immediately, which makes for a very short attempt-and-retry loop.

Questions

Is it just one button?

Yes. Every press fires the thrusters once and gravity does the rest, which is why it is playable one-handed. Holding the button gives no extra lift.

Do I have to collect the stars?

No. Stars add points but are optional, so reaching for one is a trade against the line you would otherwise take through the gate.

Can I challenge a friend?

Yes. Blitzcade's friend-code challenges let two people play the same game and compare scores without either of you needing an account.
